Handling of Sensitive of Data – 2021

Department store to distribution center?

State and federal laws provide special protections for personally identifiable information (aka PII) by law; in general, the term refers to personal information alone or in a combination that will uniquely identify an individual. It is Scherzer International’s policy to abide by all legal requirements relating to personally identifiable information.

“Sensitive information” is defined as information about an individual’s medical or health conditions (covered by Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act also known as HIPAA), racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, information specifying the sex life of the individual or other information designated as sensitive by the controller of the information.

SI has a Clean Desk Policy where sensitive data can’t be left unattended and should be locked in a cabinet when not at your desk.

Papers with sensitive data must be either placed in a shredder box or shredded immediately when no longer needed.
